The 2009 NFL Free Agency frenzy kicks off at 12:01 AM EST Friday, February 27. The free agency period is not only excited for the players involved, but for the fans as well. It still plays second fiddle to the Draft, but you can’t help but feel a little like a child on Christmas morning.
NFL fans watch the wire hoping to see their favorite team just inked a top free agency. Some teams (the Dallas Cowboys and Washington Redskins) always go after the big name, top-dollar free agents, while other teams (the Pittsburgh Steelers) usually look for cheaper guys that play solid ball. Either way, most teams will add at least one player from free agency.
As of writing this, some of the top players this year include:
QB: Kurt Warner, Kerry Collins, Rex Grossman, Byron Leftwich
RB: Fred Taylor, Cedric Benson, Derrick Ward, Deuce McAllister
WR: TJ Houshmandzadeh, Laveranues Coles, DJ Hackett, Marvin Harrison, Nate Washington
OL: Matt Birk, Jeff Saturday
LB: Ray Lewis, Takeo Spikes, Channing Crowder, Derrick Brooks
DL: Albert Haynesworth, Jonathan Babineaux
DB: Chris McAlister, Brian Dawkins, DeAngelo Hall
Good luck to your team! May they spend wisely and not sign a player who quits when he gets a big contract.

About Maurice Jones-Drew
Maurice Jones-Drew is entering the 4th year of his career as a running back for the Jacksonville Jaguars. With the recent release of Fred Taylor, the Jags will look for Maurice to handle a much larger workload. The question has brought up… can Maurice handle being a featured back? He’s only 5’6″ tall and takes a beating when he runs. Maurice is the type of player that looks for contact.
Jones-Drew has only rushed for over 20 carries in a game 5 times in his first 3 years. And in those 5 games, he’s only had one 100-yard performance. There’s no doubt that Maurice is a playmaker and has a nose for the endzone. He’s scored 38 touchdowns already and could realistically be the Jaguars all time touchdown leader in just a few more years. That is if they extend him.
Maurice Jones-Drew wants an extension that pays him as a top back. The Jaguars seem to be a bit hesitant on giving him a big deal until he proves he can be an every down back.

The Southeastern Conference is home to some of the best college football teams in the country. The last three BCS National Championships have been won by SEC teams. Not only do SEC schools have competitive teams on the field, but the fans are just as fanatic in the stadium.
Tailgating, parades, and games are part of the gameday culture that brings an SEC college town to life on any Saturday during the season. RVs pour in from across the country filled with the best fans.
The job of a mascot is to rally the fans and keep them energetic during the game. Mascots lead the fans in team cheers, fight songs and even the classic “wave.” In today’s post I’m counting down the top 5 mascots in the SEC. Before you check my rankings, submit your vote!

In the United States, we’re in the dead of winter. Unless you’re in Hawaii, finding a surf spot with decent water temps is hard to do. Even in Florida, our water is still 60 degrees. Wetsuits can relieve most of the chill, but they just don’t provide a surfer with the flexibility that a waverider should have.
So what do surfers do in the winter? They hit the slopes of course! Surfing and snowboarding are very similar and transitioning from one sport to the other isn’t that difficult. It’s all about balance. Before you know it, you’ll be carving mountain snow instead of pipeline waves.
One of the best things about being a surfer and a snowboarder is that you can bring your surf gear with you to the slopes. I’m not talking about your board shorts and bikinis… more like sweatshirts and jackets. Surf companies design their lines to fit the style and need of both surfers and snowboarders.
While I wouldn’t wear it on the slopes (despite the hoodie’s style, it is not waterproof), the Hurley Iconic Brown Full Zip Hoodie can be worn in comfort around the lodge. For only $66, you get a stylish, midweight hoodie with rib knit cuffs (perfect for your gloves and it limits the amount of snow that gets in).
O’Neill also makes a versatile Fairhaven Winter White Jacket for women. It comes with a fauz fur lined hood and zip off sleeves so the jacket converts to a vest.
All of these products are available at Surf Fanatics, where right now we are offering FREE 3-DAY SHIPPING on any size order. If you’re tired of waiting for the waves to come back, why not take a trip to the mountains and bring your new clothes.
Before you know it, this could be you:

Bad news for Phoenix Suns fans. Superstar Amare Stoudemire could miss the rest of the regular season, after suffering a partially detached retina in his right eye Wednesday during the Suns’ win over the Clippers. Some experts saying that Amare should consider himself lucky if he is only sidelined for the remainder of the year. And injury like this could potentially be career ending.
This comes after the Suns have scored 140 and 142 points in their new uptempo, high powered offense. An offense perfectly suited for Amare. What will the Suns do now without their best player?
If the NBA season ended today, the Phoenix Suns would be the 9th seed in the West. Unfortunately for them, only the top 8 teams from each conference make the playoffs. Without about 30 games left in the regular season there is still plenty of time to make up ground… it’s just doing it without Stoudemire will be a lot harder.
Remember the Houston Rockets last year? They were able to pull off 22 wins in a row and finish the second half of the season with a 31-7 record… most of that without Yao Ming.
Now it’s up to a 35 year-old Steve Nash and a 36 year-old Shaquille O’Neal to get the job done.
How do you think the Sun season will finish? Will they rally for a playoff spot, or sink to the depths of the Western Conference?
