Just days after major media outlets and fan message boards were buzzing with news of Billy Donovan possibly jumping ship to Kentucky, the Wildcats have reportedly offered Memphis coach John Calipari a deal to become their next head coach. Kentucky parted ways with Bill Gillispie late last week after his second season of under-performing.

Unlike most SEC schools, the University of Kentucky is a basketball first school, built on a winning foundation and is one of the most tradition-rich programs anywhere. The Kentucky coaching job is often regarded as the best college basketball job in the country, so it comes with no surprise that Calipari is interested in the position and wanted a night to sleep on the offer. If Calipari accepts the position, it will likely make him the highest paid basketball coach in the NCAA.

Calipari, 252-69 in nine seasons at Memphis and 445-140 overall, was named the Sports Illustrated coach of the year before the start of the NCAA tournament, the first time he received SI’s award. Calipari was the Naismith coach of the year last season, joining Duke’s Mike Krzyzewski as the only coaches to be named the winner twice since the award’s inception in 1987.

The SEC has been down the past few years, in some part because Kentucky hasn’t had success. Bringing in a big name coach could revive the conference to what it once was.

Only four teams remain in the biggest college basketball tournament of the year. Over the weekend we saw two No.1 seeds go down, the Louisville Cardinals and the Pittsburgh Panthers. A lot of brackets were busted on those two games. The remaining final four teams include:

No. 1 Connecticut Huskies
No. 1 North Carolina Tar Heels
No. 2 Michigan State Spartans
No. 3 Villanova Wildcats

A pretty standard Final Four if you ask me. No real surprise teams and the two best teams in the country advanced. I was extremely impressed with the way Villanova has played lately, having beat Duke and Pittsburgh to get to get this far. They’ll have a tough game on Saturday against North Carolina, but it would not surprise me to see them advance to the Finals.

If you’re a fan of any Final Four teams, we have a great selection of gear just for you. Here’s a small selection.

Football Fanatics is co-sponsoring a Palm Beach Autographs event, welcoming former Florida Gator superstar athlete Percy Harvin to the Avenues Mall in Jacksonville, Florida on March 28 at 4:00 PM EST. This is Percy Harvin’s first ever autograph signing appearance.

Don’t have anything for Percy Harvin to sign? Fans will be able to purchase No. 1 Florida Gator jerseys, BCS Championship merchandise, mini-helmets and other items at the Football Fanatics retail location located in the Avenues Mall. Also scheduled to appear on Saturday are former Gators Tate Casey, Javier Estopinan, Kestahn Moore, Phil Trautwein, and Jason Watkins. These former Gators will be signing autographs starting around 1:00 PM, just before Harvin’s scheduled appearance.

We’re going to be taking video and pictures of the event, so if you can’t make it be sure to check back here next week for all the details.

After a couple of days without any college hoops, the Madness continues tonight with four Sweet Sixteen games. The first game’s tip off is at 7:07 PM EST and the final game starts at 9:57. Basketball fans will get a healthy dose of some of the nations finest ball when two No. 1 seeds take the floor tonight in Glendale, AZ and Boston, MA.

No. 5 Purdue vs. No. 1 Connecticut @ 7:07 PM
No. 4 Xavier vs. No. 1 Pittsburgh @ 7:27 PM
No. 3 Missouri vs. No. 2 Memphis @ 9:37 PM
No. 3 Villanova vs. No. 2 Duke @ 9:57 PM

In my bracket I have Missouri upsetting Memphis, Purdue upsetting Connecticut, and Duke beating Villanova. I can’t count on the other game because I didn’t pick Pittsburgh or Xavier to advance to the Sweet Sixteen! Crazy huh?

If I could redo my bracket, I would probably pick Connecticut to win (I think they’ll rally tonight after learning of an alleged recruiting scandal) and I would pick Villanova to upset Duke. I still like my pick of Missouri over Memphis.

Who do you have winning tonight’s games?

I never could go through with getting a tattoo.  It was a combination of the anticipated throbbing from sharp needles and the indecisiveness of choosing what exactly I wanted on my body permanently.  I didn’t want the normal butterflies on the lower stomach, the stars on the inside ankle, my name in fancy script, nor the Chinese characters above the tailbone…who knows what those characters really mean.  I wanted something that stood apart from others.

My second year of undergrad, I had an idea to get a barcode on my neck with the words “Made in Heaven” underneath.  Cute, huh?  But when I was told, artists were prohibited to give anesthesia to customers during the process, that idea quickly left my mind.

As for the exceptional rich and famous, their creativity and painless temperaments, have somewhat inspired me.  However, their inks on feet, necks, and even faces, are indeed unbearable for a novice like myself.  But how do you feel about them?

The 2009 NFL Draft is coming up in just a few weeks. I love draft time. You get to see your favorite college football players “graduate” to the next level… all the while hoping your team lands a their next super star.

A lot of fans have Draft Day parties, or head down to a local sports bar to watch the action unfold. If you’re one of those die-hard NFL fans, you must pick up your teams Draft Day Hat.

Football Fanatics just got in 2009 Reebok Draft Day Flex Fit Hats for all 32 teams. We also have youth sizes for your youngsters. I love the new style of this year’s hat. You’ve got the classic white Cowboys hat with the blue star, but then you also has a black Colts hat and a green Seahawks hat.

You can pick one of these hats up for only $24.95 (or $21.95 youth size).

Check out a couple examples:
