Quiksilver Pro Recap, Joel Parkinson Wins!
There were many surprises early this week in Australia during the 2009 Quiksilver Pro. Here’s a short recap to let you know what went down.
Dane Reynolds scored the first perfect 10 of the 2009 ASP World Tour season and the first of his career. Reynolds stayed on fire by scoring a 9.4 on Monday morning. But it wasn’t enough for the title.
Kelly Slater was taken down by Julian Wilson on Sunday with an impressive score.
On Tuesday, the competition was moved to Kirra where the infamous waves were barreling down the line. Surfs ranged from six to eight feet giving a huge potential for great performance scores.
The challenge wrapped up this morning with Australian native Joel Parkinson, clinching the title as winner of the Quiksilver Pro Gold Coast. The Aussie surfer won the competition in 2002, and returned to today’s finals scoring a heat total of 18.84 out of 20, of which he nailed a perfect 10 twice. The score was indeed unsurpassable to fellow finalist Adriano de Souza who finished with an 11.30 heat total.
Kicking off his 2009 campaign for the ASP World Title, Parkinson stands in a position. Congrats Joel!
