MLB Opening Day
Yes there was a game last night, but today is officially Major League Baseball Opening Day. It’s been a long offseason since the Philadelphia Phillies won the World Series in October, but I’m sitting here looking at the schedules and see baseball games going all day. Before I get into my World Series predictions, let’s take a look at some of today’s action.
The New York Mets and the Cincinnati Reds already have 1 inning in the books as I write this. They were the first game to go off this morning. The Royals vs. White Sox and Rays vs. Red Sox games were both postponed due to rain. It must be frustrating to wait all offseason for your team to play a live game of ball, then wake up and see that the game is rained out.
Even with the Final Four on tonight, ESPN2 will still be broadcasting the Chicago Cubs vs. Houston Astros. A lot of experts picked the Cubs to win the NL Central and the Astros to finish near the bottom. The Astros are one of my surprise teams of 2009. They have a solid pitching staff led by Roy Oswalt and added a catcher with a bat in Pudge Rodriguez.
That said… my World Series picks for 2009 are the New York Mets and the Tampa Bay Rays. The Rays are only going to be better then they were last year, and that means their first ever WS Title is in the making.
