Lakers Take Early NBA Finals Lead

The Los Angeles Lakers did their part and won the first two games in their arena. I don’t have the stats in front of me, but coming back from down 0-2 in the NBA Finals hasn’t probably been done too often. That’s the challenge that faces the Orlando Magic as the series moves to Florida for the next 3 games.

Last night, Courtney Lee of the Orlando Magic had a chance to win the game with .6 seconds left on the clock. Lee missed an ally-oop layup as time expired, forcing the game into overtime. The Lakers took advantage of the 5:00 minute extra quarter and outscored Orlando 13-8 to win the game.

The Lakers had great games from Pau Gasol, Kobe Bryant and Lamar Odom (who had 19 points and 8 rebounds coming off the bench). For the Magic, Rashard Lewis put on a show scoring 34 points, crashing 11 boards and dishing 7 assists. Jameer Nelson did play last night, though not as much as he did in game 1. He contributed only 4 points.

The Orlando Magic, down 0-2, are not technically in a ‘must win’ situation in this best of 4 series… but they are in a ‘dire need to win’ situation. If the Magic don’t win Game 3, then it’s all but over.
