Best NBA Draft Class Ever

23 June 2009 Posted by David 975 views One Comment

The 2009 NBA Draft is coming up on June 25 at the WaMu Theater at Madison Square Garden in New York City. The Los Angeles Clippers have the first selection and all the experts have them selecting Blake Griffin. All this talk about the NBA Draft got me thinking… what year had the best draft class? In my opinion it comes down to two years: 1984 and 1996.

The 1984 NBA Draft Class is filled with Hall of Fame talent: Hakeem Olajuwon, Michael Jordan, Charles Barkley and John Stockton werre all part of this class. There were also three other all-stars in Alvin Robertson, Otis Thorpe, and Kevin Willis.

It’s a little bit harder to judge the 1996 NBA Draft Class because these guys are still playing. The stars of this draft include: Allen Iverson, Kobe Bryant, Ray Allen, Steve Nash and Jermaine O’Neal. There are also five other players from this class that are all-stars. By the time this class is done playing, I can see three Hall of Famers (possibly four).

It’s hard to argue against the 1984 draft… not just because they have Michael Jordan but because they have arguable the best players to ever play at 3 positions: Jordan at the Shooting Guard, Hakeem at Center, and Stockton at Point Guard. These guys all set NBA Records.

What’s your opinion. What NBA Draft class do you think is the best ever?
