July 4 Sports

3 July 2009 Posted by David 280 views No Comment

July 4th is a time we celebrate our nation’s independence. It’s a time for family gatherings, outdoor activities and BBQs. With the 4th landing on a Saturday this year, we are also blessed with plenty of sporting events to attend of watch on TV. Let’s take a look at what’s going on.

Baseball fans are in luck… every team is in action on July 4th. A couple of matchups I’m looking forward to are: Mets vs. Phillies, Yankees vs. Blue Jays and Mariners vs. Red Sox. It’s great that there are a ton of games tomorrow, but most of them are afternoon games so you probably won’t be seeing any fireworks after the game.

NASCAR is also in action this weekend. The Coke Zero 400 starts at 7:30 p.m. on July 4th in Daytona. If you’re a racing fan this is must see TV.

Golf is huge on the 4th of July, in fact I’ll be playing tomorrow in a breakfast tournament. It’s great to play a round in the morning then have all afternoon for BBQ and the night open for fireworks. If you can’t hit the links yourself, tune into CBS for the AT&T National. As of right now, Tiger Woods is tied for the lead.

Then there’s always the classic 4th of July backyard games:
-Wiffle Ball
-Horseshoes
-Marco polo (if you have a pool)
-Bocce ball

Are you going to any games this weekend? Will you be watching sports on TV? Post a comment and let us know.
