Bobby Bowden to Announce His Retirement

1 December 2009 Posted by David 389 views No Comment

Florida State Seminoles head coach Bobby Bowden will announce his retirement this afternoon. Bowden has been the face of Seminoles football for 34 years and been one of the greatest ambassadors to the university. Bobby Bowden has done so much for FSU and college football in general – Nole fans will be sad to see him go.

Bobby Bowden built the Seminoles program from the ground up. He led the Seminoles to national championships in 1993 and ‘99 and 14 consecutive top-five finishes in the Associated Press top 25 poll from 1987 to 2000. That’s just unbelievable and something that might never be replicated in today’s game. 14 consecutive top-five finished – How can you read that and not say “Wow!” Bowden also has 12 ACC Championships under his belt.

And in case that isn’t enough for you, his 388 career victories trail only Penn State’s Joe Paterno. He’ll probably be in that #2 spot forever… college coaches in today’s game won’t stay around long enough to reach that many victories.

Seminoles fans might be sad today with the announcement of Bowden’s retirement, but they also have to be excited about what the future holds. FSU hasn’t been competitive the past few years – will Jimbo Fisher bring them back to national prominence.
