The Civil War: Oregon State vs. Oregon

3 December 2009 Posted by David 798 views No Comment

You thought the Civil War was fought in the 1860s between the Union and the Confederacy, didn’t you? In the mind of a college football fan living in Oregon you’re completely wrong. The Civil War is an annual rivalry game between the No. 16 Oregon State Beavers and No. 7 Oregon Ducks. Normally, not much is riding on this game because USC always has the PAC-10 wrapped up – not this year. The winner will be PAC-10 champs and Rose Bowl bound.

It has been a long time since either team has been to the Rose Bowl. Oregon was last there following the 1994 season, as for Oregon State, their last trip dates back to 1964. For the first time in history, the Civil War is “winner takes all.” It’s going to be a crazy night in Oregon.

As much as some of us would love an upset and as bad as the Beavers want revenge over last year’s Civil War Battle, I have to pick the Oregon Ducks to win this game. In my opinion, Oregon is the better team and should win tonight. They’ve beat 3 ranked teams this season, including two victories over Top 10 teams: USC Trojans and the California Golden Bears. The Beavers have a better rushing attack led by Jacquizz Rodgers (1300 yards, 19 touchdowns) but the Ducks have a duel threat QB that will be tough to contain.

Who do you think will win the Civil War For The Roses?
