2010 BCS Bowl Games
The 2010 BCS Bowl Games were announced yesterday and boy do we have some great contests this year. Not including the BCS National Championship game we have three undefeated teams playing in BCS Bowl Games – giving us 5 total. I’m not sure that has ever happened. Let’s take a quick look at the four BCS Bowl Games coming up in early January.
Orange Bowl
Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets vs. Iowa Hawkeyes
This game features the ACC Champion No. 9 Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets and an at large bid – the No. 10 Iowa Hawkeyes. Tech has a great running game but they will be tested by a stout Iowa defense. I don’t really follow either one of these teams so it’s hard for me to go into depth about the matchup, but my early prediction is a Georgia Tech victory.
Fiesta Bowl
TCU Horned Frogs vs. Boise State Broncos
This is another matchup that I don’t really know much about. Both the No. 4 TCU Horned Frogs and the No. 6 Boise State Broncos are undefeated and once again looking to prove that non-BCS conference teams deserve a chance to play the the best BCS Bowl games. The BCS will watch this game closely to see if it generates interest, sells tickets and has big TV ratings. If all that happens, it could open the door for a non-BCS team in the BCS Title Game. My early prediction is a Boise State victory.
Sugar Bowl
Florida Gators vs. Cincinnati Bearcats
The No. 5 Florida Gators are the highest ranked 1-loss team. They will be playing the undefeated No. 3 Big East Champions in the Sugar Bowl. I’m not sure how Florida will handle their SECCG loss to Alabama. Will they come out flat or will they still bring the fire? Cincinnati barely beat Pittsburgh in their game, but a late game rally by QB Pike showed why he is considered one of the best. My early prediction is a Florida victory.
Rose Bowl
Ohio State Buckeyes vs. Oregon Ducks
This year’s Rose Bowl is a battle between the the Big Ten Champion OSU Buckeyes and the PAC-10 Champion Oregon Ducks. Both teams have two losses and both teams have very similar quarterbacks and styles of offense. Oregon has 4 wins over ranked teams while Ohio State only has two. Even though I have no rooting interest, I think this game could be one of the most entertaining of the bunch. My early prediction is an Oregon Ducks victory.
