Vancouver Canucks Players Replace Stolen Jerseys

5 January 2010 Posted by David 340 views No Comment

I just read an article out of the Vancouver Sun – it’s one of those sad stories, but has a happy ending. Ron Schindel owns a framing shop in Vancouver, home of the NHL’s Canucks. Last May, his framing shop was broken into and among the items stolen were three autographed NHL Jerseys – signed by Gordie Howe, Trevor Linden and Roberto Luongo. The jerseys belonged to customers. You can imagine how devastated everyone felt.

The story eventually reached the Vancouver Canucks organization. They wanted to do something wonderful… do something to show they care. Through their cooperation with the players, replacement jerseys were signed by Linden and Luongo. And just a month or so ago, the final missing autograph was obtained when Gordie Howe was in town for a guest appearance. When Howe heard of the story, he willingly autographed a Detroit Red Wings jersey.

Since then, all three jerseys have been framed and shipped to their rightful owners. It’s an amazing story that needs to get out there to the masses. That’s one of the reasons why I wrote this blog post. You don’t often hear about a professional organization stepping up and helping people out when they don’t have to. That’s not to say they don’t do it – we just rarely hear about it.
