BCS National Championship Game Preview
The college football game we’ve all been waiting for is finally here: the BCS National Championship Game. The No. 1 ranked Alabama Crimson Tide will face the No. 2 ranked Texas Longhorns in a battle for eternal glory. Both teams are led by superstar players – Bama has Heisman trophy winner Mark Ingram and Texas has senior quarterback Colt McCoy. Both teams are stacked with talent and chomping at the bit for this title. Who will be victorious?
Texas (13-0), who last won the BCS Title in 2005 (in the same stadium they play in tonight) is the clear underdog. They barely won their conference title game and are not thought to have a strong defense. Alabama (13-0) on the other hand crushed then No. 1 Florida in their conference championship game and prides themselves on their defense. People always say, “Defense wins championships.”
One thing – an odd one at that – Texas has going for them is the Heisman curse. The Heisman Curse is a myth that started in the late 2000’s, asserting that any college football player who wins the Heisman Trophy will lose their subsequent bowl game. In recent years four straight Heisman winners lost their bowl games, including three National Championships. Mark Ingram plays for Alabama and they will lean on him to carry this team tonight. Will he be able to do it? Or will he buckle under the pressure?
Alabama showed in the SECCG that they can score points, but they’ve also shown that they can play (and win) those 17-14 types of games. There’s no telling what type of game we’ll see tonight – it could be high scoring or it could be a conservative, defensive game. Either way I think we’re in for a treat tonight. These are two awesome teams going at it… both have tradition and fan bases that rival anyone.
What’s your take on the game? Who do you think will win?
P.S. Football Fanatics will have Championship apparel available immediately following the game. You can also check back here for my post game recap.
