Who could have predicted that 100 years later we would still be marveled by and clamoring to the baseball field known as Fenway Park? The first game ever played at Fenway, on April 20, 1912, was a fitting one as the mighty Bo Sox beat the New York Yankees (then, named the New York Highlanders) by a score of 7-6 over 11 innings and setting up what would be one of the greatest rivalries in all of sport.
What makes Fenway so unique is its ability to transport the average spectator to another era in time by simply just being itself. When you approach Fenway and are embraced with its essence, you really are glimpsing at a piece of history. To be able to sit, today, and watch modern-day men playing the same game at the same field Babe Ruth and Ted Williams played, is in itself, extraordinary.
Fenway Park, on September 8, 2008, broke the all-time Major League record with its 456th consecutive sellout with a game. It would go on to record its 500th sellout a year later.
