JACKSONVILLE, FL – June 6, 2012 – Fanatics, Inc., a leading online retailer of officially licensed sports merchandise, today announced it has completed its previously announced acquisition of Dreams, Inc. In conjunction with the acquisition, Fanatics closed a $150 million equity investment led by Insight Venture Partners, with participation from Andreessen Horowitz, and a $75 million line of credit led by Bank of America. The funds will also be used to support future growth of the business.

“The Internet allows for a significantly broader assortment of licensed sports merchandise to be sold to the consumer – especially to the displaced fan who is typically unable to purchase their favorite teams’ merchandise in local retail stores.  As a result of this acquisition, Fanatics is even better positioned to deliver a superior customer experience for all sports fans,” said Alan Trager, CEO of Fanatics. “In addition to providing greater product assortment, we are focused on expanding our distribution capabilities and opening regional fulfillment centers to deliver fans’ orders faster than before.”

“We’re excited about the opportunity to invest again in the Fanatics team,” said Deven Parekh, Managing Director at Insight Venture Partners. “Our prior investment in Fanatics led to significant growth and success for the business, helping the Company achieve important milestones, including more than doubling its revenue. With the acquisition of Dreams, we believe Fanatics will continue its trajectory as the licensed sports merchandise business continues to thrive online.”

In addition to its own Fanatics and FansEdge brands, the company operates licensed sports merchandise e-commerce sites for its partners, including major professional sports leagues, leading professional and collegiate teams, media sites and sports apparel manufacturers.  Following the close of the Dreams acquisition, Fanatics headquarters will remain in Jacksonville, FL. The company will also operate offices in the suburbs of both Philadelphia and Chicago.

“Our goal is to build one of the world’s truly great e-commerce companies,” said Michael G. Rubin, CEO and founder of Kynetic, who also serves as the Executive Chairman of Fanatics. “The combination of Fanatics and Dreams, the confidence in our business reflected in the investment from Insight and Andreessen Horowitz, and our expected revenue of $1 billion in 2013, all underscore our momentum toward achieving this goal.”

Monday was moving day for the folks at Fanatics. We went from a 160,000 square footage building to 550,000. And to celebrate our new gorgeous space complete with a break room, outdoor Atrium, thirteen conference rooms, and a self-checkout marketplace stocked with our favorite snacks, sandwiches, and drinks we had a party. More than 200 employees gathered around to hear appreciation acknowledgments and the future outlook of our new brand Fanatics. Jacksonville native, Tim Tebow surprised us with a visit and even spoke on “having passion for whatever life career we choose”.

The fun continued with randomly selected employees winning gift baskets stuffed with jerseys, throw blankets, collectible items, shoes, polos, hoodies and more for ten of our most popular teams. But it was the great dessert that made it One Sweet Day.

It was all to support the Wounded Warrior Project, a non-profit organization headquartered in Jacksonville, FL on a mission to help the injured service men and women of this generation. Our local store mascot, Frankie Fanatic and Mike from We Are Fanatics TV, were there to capture it all. Check it out!

Football Fanatics’ own Frankie Fanatic joined an old friend, Jaguars mascot Jaxson DeVille, as well as some new friends, to film this year’s Football Fanatics commercial.

The shoot, which drew over a dozen Football Fanatics employees and friends, took place at the Orange Park Mall parking lot on Thursday, August 26th. Despite the heat and humidity, the crew of volunteers joined together to pull off what we hope will be one of our best commercials yet.

Each year, as the football season draws near, Football Fanatics puts together a commercial to promote the local brick-and-mortar stores. The spots run on local broadcast and cable networks as well as various video sharing sites.

“The spots help Football Fanatics to promote new products, as well as showcase our stores,” said Mike Madden, producer of the spot. “We’ve also used them to introduce viewers to Frankie Fanatic, as well as various Football Fanatics employees.”

The latest spot features a new character, “Gearless” who makes the misstep of showing up at a tailgate party wearing a plain white polo shirt. Upon seeing Gearless, Frankie and Jaxson proceed to take Gearless to Football Fanatics where they try on an assortment of products before finally settling on a Jaguars jersey.

David Harrelson, who plays “Gearless”, is a store employee who appeared in his first commercial three years ago. Other commercials feature mostly store staff or their friends. The Tailgate Party setting was an opportunity to let other Football Fanatics employees – most of whom came from Marketing and Customer Service – get involved.

“Featuring employees is something we’ve done since I started producing the spots four years ago,” Madden said. “Sheri Weiss (marketing manager for the local retail stores) and I usually get together and hash out a script or an idea and then we just run with it. But featuring employees is always a big part of the production.”

In keeping with employee participation, this year’s commercial closes with a shot of all of the employees involved, yelling “Get your gear on…at Football Fanatics!”
