I was debating this morning about whether or not to blog about Michael Vick signing with the Philadelphia Eagles last night. It’s a hot topic, so ultimately I decided to write one… I’m just going to leave all the dog fighting stuff out of it and focus on his impact with the Eagles. Vick signed a 1 year deal with an option for a second year. The first year pays him around $1.6 million and the second year would pay him $5+ million.

Please don’t point out the fact that I only blog about golf when there is a major going on. We love golf here at Football Fanatics and have a ton of golf apparel, but I just don’t follow the sport enough to know what’s going on unless there it’s major week. This week (starting today) is the PGA Championship at Hazeltine, where Tiger Woods will look to win his first (and only) major of 2009.

Week 1 of the NFL Preseason starts in a mere 2 days. We had the Hall of Fame game last Sunday, but that doesn’t really count. Thursday night, ESPN will broadcast a Super Bowl rematch with the Arizona Cardinals playing the Pittsburgh Steelers in Pittsburgh. Football fans everywhere will tune in to watch this game, not because of the hoopla surrounding Big Ben, but because it’s football! we don’t need any other reason.

Eli Manning – The $100 Million Dollar Man

Yesterday, New York Giants quarterback Eli Manning agreed to a six-year, $97 million contract extension, an average salary of roughly $15.3 million annually. I’m pretty sure this makes him the highest paid quarterback (if not the highest paid player) in the NFL. Not bad for a guy going into his sixth season, of which only one he had a QB rating higher than 80 (86.4 in 2008).

This guy posted a video of himself singing a parody of “I Love College” but using “I Love Jerseys” instead. I challenge anyone out there to show themselves wearing a greater variety of NFL, NBA, MLB jerseys than this guy… plus his song is pretty catchy.

Continue to watch the video.

NFL First Round Holdouts

All 32 NFL teams have now officially begun training camp … yet as of writing this post there are still 11 first round draft picks unsigned. Nobody likes a holdout, but sometimes it’s a necessary evil in the NFL. All the players want to be paid more than the player selected in their slot the previous year. But sometimes you will have a player like Gholston in 2008 or Heyward-Bey in 2009 that gets paid so much more money than expected it throws all the other teams out of whack causing delays in the signings.

The MLB trade deadline is today. The day started out pretty slow but has picked up a lot of steam over the past hour. Jake Peavy has been traded to the White Sox, Scott Rolen has been traded to the Cincinnati Reds, Jarrod Washburn has been traded to the Tigers and Victor Martinez has been traded to the Red Sox. With only 7 hours left, will we see Halladay moved as well?
