The NHL Season just wrapped up a week ago with the Pittsburgh Penguins bringing home their their Stanley Cup. It got me thinking about some of the best hockey players of all-time… Wayne Gretsky, Mario Lemieux, Bobby Orr, etc. Not being a huge hockey fan, I caught myself browsing the internet trying to find out as much as I could about them. One interesting record I came across was perfect for an edition of “Stump Zeke.” Who holds the NHL record for most regular season NHL games played? Watch and find out.
Some of the staff here at Football Fanatics are playing in a fantasy baseball league. It’s a 10-team head-to-head league with standard scoring. I’m taking this time to vent about my team and their pathetic performance through the first two months of the season. Currently I’m sitting in dead last with a 35-39-6 record… Zeke, from “Stump Zeke” is in first place with a 59-31-10 record. It’s a long season, so I’m not paniced yet, plus there are 6 teams under .500.
The best golfers in the world are headed to Bethpage Black this week for the 109th U.S. Open. Tiger Woods will tee it up on Thursday to defend his title against the likes of Phil Mickelson, Sergio Garcia, Angel Cabrera among others. You probably remember last year’s U.S. Open. It had one of the most dramatic finishes of any golf tournament in history. Tiger Woods battled Rocco Mediate with amazing shot after shot and forced an 18-hole playoff on Monday to claim the trophy.
One of the things I love …
The Los Angeles Lakers are 2009 NBA Finals Champs. The Lakers defeated the Orlando Magic 4-1 to capture their 15th title. The Magic, who steamrolled Cleveland in the Eastern Conference Finals, just didn’t put up a fight at all in the Finals. The first few games were decided by a handful of points, but last night’s game 5 was embarrassing for the Magic.
Mark Reynolds of the Arizona Diamondbacks is off to a hot start in 2009. He’s batting .269 with 15 homeruns, 38 runs, 37 RBI and 12 stolen bags. Quite impressive for someone who set one of the worst MLB records to own last season. Today’s “Stump Zeke” sports trivia question is: What single season MLB record did Mark Reynolds set in 2008? Check the video for an answer.
PING!!!! (that’s the sound of an aluminum bat crushing a homerun). If you didn’t know… the College World Series starts this weekend on June 13. Eight teams have advanced to Omaha for a shot at the championship: Arkansas, Arizona State, Cal State Fullerton, LSU, Southern Miss, Texas, UNC and Virginia. Fans will pack their bags and drive RVs in droves just to catch a glimpse of amateur baseball.
When working for Football Fanatics you might expect to see employees wearing a jersey to work… after all, we have a great selection of NFL Jerseys. So today I noticed Zeke is wearing a Greg Jennings Green Bay Packer jersey. Not only is Zeke our resident sports guru here in the office, but he’s also one of the biggest Green Bay Packers fans. I decided to test his team knowledge in today’s edition of “Stump Zeke.”
NASCAR is unique in that they host their premier event at the beginning of the season rather than the conclusion. The Daytona 500 is the biggest event in NASCAR… it’s the one race every driver wants to win. Some drivers have had great success in Daytona, while others can’t seem to find their place. Today’s “Stump Zeke” sports trivia question is related to NASCAR: Who is the only Daytona 500 champion to win the race with four different car makes?
