One of the greatest debates in baseball is whether or not we need a designated hitter (DH). The American League has been using a DH since 1973, which eliminates the pitcher from the batting lineup. That is until yesterday when Tampa Bay Rays manager Joe Maddon mistakingly assigned two players to third base on the lineup card. Evan Longoria was supposed to DH, but the error cost the Rays that spot in the lineup… forcing pitcher Andy Sonnanstine to bat 3rd in the lineup.
That’s the tag line for one of our newest Fanatics-themed sports apparel sites, LadyFanatics.com. Launched a few weeks before the Mother’s Day holiday, the site focuses on products of interest to women sports fans and features college, NFL, MLB, NBA, NHL and NASCAR team fan gear.
Last night after dinner I was flipping channels and stopped on Spike TV. I noticed they were re-airing UFC 60: Matt Hughes vs. Royce Gracie. This fight originally aired in May 2006, near the height of Mughes career. At the time he was arguably considered the best pound-for-pound fighter in the world and definitely the top welterweight.
Father’s Day is just around the corner. If your dad is anything like mine, then he’s impossible to shop for. Either he already has everything he needs, won’t ask for anything, or usually ends up returning everything. Make Father’s Day 2009 different. Let Dad know he’s #1 with new fan gear from Football Fanatics.
How does the old saying go, “Learn from your mistakes”? Well it seems that someone forgot to get the Orlando Magic the memo. The Magic blew yet another double digit lead in the 4th quarter of Game 5 last night vs. the Boston Celtics, refusing to feed All Star Center Dwight Howard the ball in the post for nearly the whole 4th quarter. The loss gives Boston a 3-2 game lead in their best of seven playoff series leading into Game 6 Thursday night at Orlando.
The 2009 NASCAR Sprint All-Star Race is this weekend at the Lowe’s Motor Speedway in Concord, N.C. This is the 25th running of the race. This is not your typical race. It’s 100 laps broken down into segments with mandatory pit stops. In 2008, Kasey Kahne, who happened to be voted in by the fans, won the event and the $1 million prize.
Just as parents raise their kids to be fans of their favorite sports teams, pet owners raise their pets to love specific teams. I know I’m not the only one out there that has a team collar on their dog. My dog Chester proudly wears his orange and blue Gator collar, size XS because he’s a miniature pinscher. Football Fanatics sells a variety of products for your pet. Don’t leave them out when you’re watching the big game in your favorite jersey!
