MLB 2009 Spring Training

Baseball is in the air. The fresh cut grass, the soft clay infield, and the crack of a ball on a bat… it’s everywhere! Living in Florida, we’re surrounded by spring training baseball in nearly every corner of the state. Arizona is the other lucky state to house a spring training baseball league.
Pitchers and catchers reported over the past few days, while position players report to training early this week. Time is winding down for a few star players who have yet to sign with a team: Manny Ramirez, Ivan …

No Fear Gear

It didn’t mean to put a rhyme in the post title, but saying “gear” just feels better then “merchandise” when talking about a brand like this. No Fear is a lifestyle clothing brand that was created in 1989 by Mark Simo, and Brian Simo. They started in 1989 and really hit the scene in the early to mid 90s. Everyone had No Fear shirts… I know I did.

Do you remember No Fear shirts? They had sayings on them, most of the time it would be a situation in which a person was required to show ‘no fear’. A sports example of a No Fear shirt I had was something like “Bottom of the ninth. Bases loaded. Full Count. Two Outs. No Fear.”

Steroids in Baseball

Over the past few years, baseball fans have been bombarded with news of their favorite players being accused or admitted steroid abusers. Some of baseballs most treasured records are now broken by cheaters under the influence of PEDs (performance enhancing drugs).
I never intended to blog about steroids in baseball. It’s a dark shadow of the sport that I didn’t want to get into. But with the fall of Alex Rodriguez this week, I felt compelled to speak out… at least a little. A-Rod was supposed to be the …

It may be the dead of winter in most of the United States, but here in Florida we’re pushing 78 degrees today. Note: I’ve included a spot from Puerto Rico because they’re a US territory and I tried to spread the love across several states.

Daytona 500 Gear & Preview

The 2009 NASCAR will open this week with the sports biggest event: The Daytona 500. Martin Truex Jr. claimed the top pole position for Sunday’s race. Normally, you’d think starting the race in 1st place would be a good thing, but since 2002, the pole winner for the big event has finished outside the top 10 six times.

The Daytona 500 is regarded by many as the most important and prestigious race on the NASCAR calendar, carrying by far the largest purse. 150,000+ fans will pack Daytona International Speedway for the 51st running. This year’s race is wide open. Of course there are the usual favorites, but I think anyone has a shot at winning.

Kobe Bryant vs. LeBron James

Here’s a fun scenario to play with. Pretend the NBA disbanded and you were granted the position of GM for an NBA franchise. All the players were put into one big pool and you have to pick either LeBron James or Kobe Bryant for your team (and the future). Who do you choose, and why?

National Signing Day

Will your favorite college football team signing the best high school recruits in the nation? National Signing Day is the first day a high school senior can sign a binding National Letter of Intent for college football. It’s the day recruitniks wait for all year.

High School recruiting websites rank players on their ability and teams according to how many top players they sign. Some players commit months in advance, but nothing is guaranteed until they sign the letter of intent. Year after year we see top recruits switch schools, infuriating some fans while exciting others.
