Everything’s bigger in Texas, right? Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones put that saying to the test when he ordered the construction of a new stadium for his Cowboys franchise. Ground broke on the new stadium back in September 2005 and the scheduled opening date should be in time for the start of the 2009 NFL Season.

The stadium is an amazing piece of architecture. Check out the pictures and videos on the stadium’s official website. Here are a couple of quick stats:

Total Square Footage: 2.3 million square feet. The entire Statue of Liberty and its base could fit into the stadium with the roof closed. The stadium is also the world’s largest column-free room. The American Airlines Center in Dallas could fit entirely into the new stadium at field level.

Interior Cubic Volume: 104 million cubic feet. (By comparison, Reliant Stadium in Houston measures 90 million cubic feet.) The Dallas Cowboys stadium will be the largest enclosed stadium (in cubic feet) in the NFL.

Seating Capacity: A capacity of 80,000 plus standing room or additional seating in the end zones, along with ticketed areas in the end zone plazas can increase total capacity to 100,000.

Jerry Jones spared no expense in his new stadium. Everything you can imagine will be state of the art. The stadium will also feature a new concept for suites: field-level sideline and end zone suites. Think dugouts at a baseball game, except equipped with fully stocked bars and high-def TVs.

In addition to the Cowboys home games, the stadium will also host the annual Texas A&M vs. Arkansas game, the annual Cotton Bowl, the 2010 NBA All-Star Game, Super Bowl XLV, the 2014 NCAA Final Four, and more! Every sporting event will want to play in this stadium. It’s something that all leagues, teams and fans will want to experience.

Football is king in America. Heading to your favorite team’s stadium on gameday is one of the best traditions football fans have. The atmosphere in the college game blows away that of any other major sport. The tailgaiting, school spirit, RVs, and fans can turn a small college town into an electrifying city on gameday.
Today’s post lists the top 10 largest football stadiums in America. It’s no coincidence that they are all for college football teams. Stadiums are listed in order by capacity.
