The Los Angeles Lakers are 2009 NBA Finals Champs. The Lakers defeated the Orlando Magic 4-1 to capture their 15th title. The Magic, who steamrolled Cleveland in the Eastern Conference Finals, just didn’t put up a fight at all in the Finals. The first few games were decided by a handful of points, but last night’s game 5 was embarrassing for the Magic.
The Lakers rolled the Magic 99-86 in Orlando and Kobe Bryant brought home the Finals MVP.
Football Fanatics has a huge selection of LA Lakers Champs gear available for purchase now. If you order today, you get $4.99 3-day shipping on any size order.
Here’s a selection of what you can find in our shop.

The NBA Finals start tomorrow, so I wanted to try and stump Zeke with a basketball question. Knowing he follows Orlando Magic basketball I figured he would get this one right… but I went ahead and asked Zeke “who holds the NBA record for most assists in a single game?”
Think you know the answer? Check out the video to see if you’re right.

Before May 8th’s game against the Los Angeles Lakers, the Houston Rockets were playing their best basketball of the year. They were a trendy pick to beat the Lakers and advance to the Western Conference Finals. However, late in the game on Friday night, Yao Ming went down with a broken left foot, ending his season… and all hope for the Rockets, right? Wrong! Last night, the Yao-less and McGrady-less Rockets beat the Lakers 99-87 to tie the series up 2-2.
The Rockets played a tough, physical game with the notion that defense can still win championships. Without Yao, the Rockets top scorer, other players had to step up. Point Guard Aaron Brooks scored a career high 34 points and Shane Battier added 23 points. “I think everyone but us got the memo that we weren’t supposed to show up today without Yao,” Battier said.
The Rockets never trailed and at one point led by as many as 29 points. “I’m not surprised,” said Battier. “It almost sounds cliche, but we’re a resilent group. We talk about bouncing back. Through adversity, through lineup changes, through trades, through injuries, we’ve never quit and we’ve never stopped believing.”
Kobe Bryant only scored 15 points and never once made it to the free throw line. Without Yao in the lineup though, Lakers Center Pau Gasol had his way in the paint, scoring 30 points. If the Rockets want to win Game 5 in Los Angeles they’ll have to figure out a way to stop Pau.

All Hail King James! Reports are coming out the the NBA will name LeBron James as the 2008-2009 MVP. James averaged 28.4 points, 7.6 rebounds and 7.2 assists during the regular season, in which the Cleveland Cavaliers won a team-record 66 games and earned the top overall seed in the playoffs. LeBron is in his 6th season (hard to imagine it’s been that long) and will become the third youngest MVP at the age of 24.
An agruement could be made for Kobe Bryant, last year’s NBA MVP… but the powers at be have determine LeBron is more worthy of the honor. LeBron leading the Cavs to a team-record 66 wins is a remarkable feat, especially when you look at their roster and don’t see it littered with superstars (cough… Boston… cough). I still think Kobe is the better pure shooter, but LeBron edges Kobe in his ability to explode to the basket with power.
In a dream NBA Playoff scenario, we will see the Lakers and Cavaliers battle for the NBA crown. Both teams won their first-round matchups and have favorable matchups in round-two.

If the Chicago Bulls didn’t have Derrick Rose, would they be battling the Boston Celtics in the playoffs right now? As only a rookie, Derrick Rose has already shown his worth to the Bulls by racking up 16.8 ppg, 6.3 apg and 80 starts for Chicago in the 2008-2009. It was also enough for the NBA to name Rose their Rookie of the Year.
Rose is a 6′3″ point guard who played one season of college basketball for Memphis. He was named to the All-Final Four team after averaging 20.8 points, 6.5 rebounds and 6 assists during the tourney. Rose left early for the NBA and became the first pick of the 2008 NBA Draft. Judging by his performance this year, I’d say he made the right move. Rose looks like a future superstar in the league and perennial all-star.
Show your support for 2009’s NBA Rookie of the Year, #1 Derrick Rose of the Chicago Bulls, with this graphic tee by adidas!
